| For 207 years,
Samuel Gawith & Co. have been producing fine pipe
tobaccos that have been enjoyed by all walks of life in the
UK. In a small mill in the mountainous lake district of
Cumbria, the generations of Gawiths have been hand cutting,
stripping, and blending their tobaccos. |

From
this region of picturesque settings, legends of the
magnitude of Williams Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge,
who wrote The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and
Kubla Kahn, have emerged. Samuel
Gawith & Co. is another legend from Kendal.
From the reign of George III to
today, Samuel Gawith & co. have been using original
recipes and machinery, which was brought by pack horse from
Scotland to The "Kendal Brown" House at Canal
Head.
Following are the descriptives of
the fine tobaccos, bended with Virginia, Turkish, cyprus
Latakia, Zimbabwe, and Tanzanian leafs, which Samuel Gawith
& Co. produce and The Sheffield Exchange, Ltd. proudly
distributes throughout North America |

Best Brown

(Available in bulk only.)
|
| This is a full strength, mellow tobacco
comprising a blend of dark fired Tanzanian leaf. It is Gawith's
best-selling premium grade flake. It starts as 7 lbs. of hand stripped
leaf and goes through a steaming process prior to being pressed. The
cake, having been prepared, is wrapped in a select leaf and packed by
hand into a 12 inch square. This cake is pressed and left for a
minimum of two hours. Then, the pressed cake is placed into a steam
press where it is baked at full heat for two to three hours. The baked
cake has then taken on 1792's characteristic rich,
dark color. Its hardening occurs during cooling. Once the process of
cutting the flake and adding a tonquin flavoring is carried out, hand
wrapping and packing finalizes 1792, making it ready
for rubbing into your pipe. |
Best Brown is a favorite
of pipe smokers looking for a medium-strength, gentle, and slow
burning tobacco. It is manufactured using 7 lbs. of hand stripped fleu
cured Zimbabwe leaf, wrapped with selected prime leaf. Steaming the
tobacco creates a pliable leaf that is pressed into a cake and cooked
for one to two hours. Premium leaf selection and cooking gives the
desired characteristics of a medium-brown color and a distinctive
nutty aroma which can only come from the experience and knowledge of
the artisan making the flake. With only a light sweetener, Best
Brown has no added flavors. This gives Best Brown
a pleasant scent, even smoke and no tongue-bite. |

Full Virginia Flake
|
|
(Available in 50 gram tins or bulk.)
|
| Manufactured in the same way as Best
Brown, this choice Virginia leaf is steamed to a
pliable texture. Then, through hand bundling the leafs are
pressed, where they remain for two hours under about 80 pounds
of pressure. Four hours of steaming and eight hours of cooling
under the pressure of the steam press gives the rich brown
color and full flavor to the delectable flake. |

| Grousemoor |
Skiff Mixture |

(Available in 50 gram tins or
bulk.) |
| Envision a hunt on the Moors, with the dogs
scenting through the heather along the Lakeland banks as they track
the grouse and pheasant, and you will possess the vision that inspired
Samuel Gawith the create this cornerstone pipe tobacco of his young
company. an original blend going back 200 years, Grousemoor
conjures up an image of the Lakeland scenery with its accompaniments
of seasonal scents. The blend and flavors that go to make up Grousemoor
remains a secret that is only known by three people in the company.
Using a combination of hand-stripped flue cured Zimbabwe leaf, Grousemoor
is first steamed prior to being cut. After further steaming, to give Grousemoor
its own golden color, the cut leaf is stoved and "rested."
the final stage of production is the addition of a unique melange of
flavors. Grousemoor is a must for smokers who want
their days to have 'spring in the air'. |
For centuries the small sailing vessel or
"skiff" was used for leisure as well as light transport of
tobaccos (and other products) to the distant Lake District, by gently
sailing on a light breeze, also known as a "skiff." the
remote Samuel Gawith's "Kendal Brown" house, located on the
Canal Head, relied on horses and skiffs for its livelihood. Another
Samuel Gawith original, Skiff Mixture is for the
pipe-smoker who appreciates the fuller flavor of an Oriental Blend.
The blending of a variety of different styles of flue-cured tobaccos
gives Skiff Mixture its characteristic yellow and
brown features. Its real identity comes with the addition of Turkish
and a beautiful black Cyprus Latakia which gives the blend its full,
rounded taste. Allow this aroma to sail on a light breeze around your
head. |

| Perfection Mixture |
Commonwealth Mixture |
| (Available in bulk
only) |
(Available in 50 gram
tins or bulk) |
| Like many old world flavors, this blend was
initially developed to satisfy the taste of a local tobacco
connoisseur. This pipe smoker had searched the entirety of the Isle of
Britain for a smoke that would satisfy his palate. By using a variety
of brown and bright Virginian with a touch of Latakia and fine
Turkish, Samuel Gawith steamed the leafs and added a flavoring of a
hint of Vanilla to obtain what his fellow Cumbrian found to be a Perfection
Mixture. |
This Bicentennial full strength blend of
50% heavily steamed Virginian and 50% Cyprus Latakia, gives honor to
the Tobacco Lords of Glasgow and the Commonwealth of Virginia which
laid the foundation for the tobacco industry that built much of this
country. The Commonwealth fulfills the desires of the
demanding full flavoured smokers. |

stripped leaf which has undergone a steaming process prior to being

blend is dressed with vanilla, giving the tobacco a cool but flavorful
smoke. |
The Squadron Leader, named

the traditional English tobacco. Samuel Gawith & Co. blend bright
and dark Virginians together with Latakia and Turkish leaf to create
this medium bodied smoke with a rich, slow burn. |
